With Oracle's Grid approach to databases it is vital that the infrastructure can be scaled as more users are added and the number of database instances grows. Traditionally this has only occurred at the front end through adding more servers to increase CPU count. However, back-end storage is normally constrained by a single controller, creating a bottleneck as the front CPU and user count increases.
The Pillar Axiom storage system helps address this in two ways. The Pillar Axiom is architected to allow you to add additional storage controllers to a grid storage architecture. Additionally, Pillar has two RAID controllers in every disk shelf so as you add capacity, youre also scaling performance.

The Pillar AxiomONE management software allows performance to be tuned and optimised for every database instance on the storage so that you can optimise your storage based on and individual SLA or performance requirements. This means you can really start to consolidate databases.
